starkiller76: Hey everyone
salcs329: hello
Eceguru: hi
starkiller76: I posted an agenda
on the wiki
starkiller76: if anyone has
anything else we can add to it
kabev1: hey guys
gorclon1: hi
se2srini has entered the room.
se2srini: hello everyone
starkiller76: 1.
starkiller76: has everyone
paired up for hw3 yet
starkiller76: ?
michaelwalsh327: I think we did
that last week - me and ryan,
dave and isaac, vivek and
kabe, srini and sal
kabev1: We did last week right?
Eceguru: yeah
michaelwalsh327: (note - it's no
longer sue this week)
michaelwalsh327: due
gorclon1: due week from
tomorrow I think
starkiller76: ok just checking
that everyone knew who there
partner was
se2srini: thats right
Eceguru: so number 2 then
starkiller76: take it Isaac
se2srini: do we know what the
assignment is
michaelwalsh327: We split up
into two groups:
starkiller76: yes
starkiller76: it is posted on the
wiki
michaelwalsh327: (sorry - go
ahead, Isaac)
Eceguru: ok, dave and i were
able to send messages between
two peers
Eceguru: this is of the nature of
stings at the time
Eceguru: these strings can
contain the search requests
Eceguru: and the response can
also be sent this way as well
Eceguru: these are bidirectional
pipes
Eceguru: we also saw how to
send data though we didn't
examine it to much
Eceguru: but you can send byte
arrays
x V DoGG x has entered the
room.
x V DoGG x: have we started
Eceguru: we also found a mp3
package that extracts the mp3
info from the files
kabev1: yeah, I'll bring you up to
speed
Eceguru: such as genre, artist,
album
michaelwalsh327: we start at 9,
says the disciplinarian...
x V DoGG x: oops
michaelwalsh327: Isaac, I need
that for my next part; could you
send me the info?
Eceguru: sure
michaelwalsh327: (can be done
off line)
michaelwalsh327: Non-protocol
search update:
Eceguru: dave, did i miss
anything?
starkiller76: not really
starkiller76: I just wanted to
add
starkiller76: that we are not
using XML for search
Eceguru: yeah, just using strings
that we can parse
michaelwalsh327: We're
changing the architecture a bit:
instead of the middle tier having
a handle to the GUI, and the
low-level stuff having a handle
to the middle, requests down
the architecture are made as
regular method calls, and
responses
michaelwalsh327: (oops, sorry,
anythig else Isaac and Dave?)
starkiller76: good point mike
x V DoGG x: ok
x V DoGG x: when do you guys
expect to be done?
michaelwalsh327: continuung,
responses (as their can be
many responses per request)
are made by firing events.
starkiller76: at least another
week
Eceguru: probably another week
to integrate
Eceguru: dave and i's stuff is
prototype code
gorclon1: don't forget that next
week is our midterm
starkiller76: search is a major
component
michaelwalsh327: We need to
update the architecture docs
sdo the next group can follow
the same calling mechanism
easily, and we need to integrate
our stuff.
x V DoGG x: ok
Eceguru: the bidirectional pipes
will also be used for file
transfers
starkiller76: once that is
complete, sending the files
across the bi-directional pipe
won't be that hard
x V DoGG x: since search is in
the critical path
x V DoGG x: we will have to
push back the other tasks
starkiller76: I will rework the
schedule
x V DoGG x: ok
starkiller76: once we get a
functional prototype
starkiller76: other coding can
probably start
x V DoGG x: yes
x V DoGG x: that sounds good
starkiller76: the rest of the
group might want to read up on
bi-directional pipes in JXTA
se2srini: ok
salcs329: ok
starkiller76: find out how to
send files across them
x V DoGG x: the next use case's
schedule was adjusted for the
exam and spring break (??) i
believe
starkiller76: yes
x V DoGG x: so it probably
won't do to much harm, as long
they can start after the exam
se2srini: yes it should. when is
the midterm
michaelwalsh327: 3/13
kabev1: I would assume work to
comtinue over Spring break??
Eceguru: i'm going to cancun
x V DoGG x: can i come?
starkiller76: I am also out of
town
se2srini: :-)
gorclon1: pick me up on the
way!!
x V DoGG x: i will be around for
part of the time
michaelwalsh327: I'll be
featured on the video
"programmers gone wild",
available on late-night E!
television.
kabev1: I will be in the windy
city
se2srini: I'll be too.
Eceguru: haha
gorclon1: lol
kabev1: 3)
kabev1: Discuss future coding
assigments
kabev1: ok discuss :-)
starkiller76: We kind of
discussed that'
se2srini: Yes I think we can talk
about it next time
x V DoGG x: people were
supposed to sign up for 1 task
each
x V DoGG x: to start off
starkiller76: next time is good
x V DoGG x: i don't see 8
names
x V DoGG x: on the list
starkiller76: ok
x V DoGG x: can we try for that
se2srini: ok
starkiller76: sign up this week
x V DoGG x:
http://wiki.cs.uiuc.edu/SEcours
e/WifiLinux-Schedule
x V DoGG x: anything else
kabev1: Not here
kabev1: actually 1 thing
se2srini: is there any place in
wiki that I can find midterm
syllabus and sample papers.
michaelwalsh327: Just a quick
reference, re: sending strings
over pipes:
kabev1: At some point we
should start up a
"programming" get together,
like we did last semester
michaelwalsh327: We're
assuming that the protocol
layer will be responsible for
translating objects to strins and
reconstructing them, so the rest
of the ssystem can still deal
with teh objects.
kabev1: maybe once every wee,
or every toher week
kabev1: The guys in Chicago can
meet up at Motorola, and the
others can call in
x V DoGG x: yeah
starkiller76: ok
salcs329: good idea
gorclon1: sure
michaelwalsh327: Kabe, I think
for that to be useful, we'd need
a less linear schedule. Right
now, only two or three peapole
are actively programming at
any given time.
gorclon1: branch somewhere in
the schedule then?
kabev1: Let me re phrase that, a
"project" get together, update
code, update docs... however
u want to do it
kabev1: get people motivated to
get stuff done...
x V DoGG x: sounds good
michaelwalsh327: yea.
kabev1: ANyway, we can figure
it out after the midterm
x V DoGG x: yeah
Eceguru: yeah
se2srini: ys
x V DoGG x: ok
x V DoGG x: anything else?
starkiller76: Sounds good
michaelwalsh327: I'm done.
se2srini: before we end this
session. does anyone know
more about midterm
starkiller76: We can discuss
documentation later
x V DoGG x: good luck on the
exam
starkiller76: Our architecture is
going to change a little bit
starkiller76: anyway
michaelwalsh327: sorry, srini.
i'd expect to hear more about it
in calss before it actually
happens., though.
salcs329: goodluck on HW3.. is
anyone plan on using JUNIT
kabev1: no body has any exams
from before do they?
se2srini: thanks mike
starkiller76: I am using Junit
michaelwalsh327: I imagine
Ryan and I will.
salcs329: Srini.. I think we
should as well
starkiller76: It is very easy to
use
starkiller76: got it up and
running in about 1/2 hour
salcs329: good 2 know..
starkiller76: and I have never
used it before
se2srini: sure.
gorclon1: sounds good to me
starkiller76: talk to you all next
week
Eceguru: anything else?
starkiller76: I will post the log
x V DoGG x: ok
x V DoGG x: thanks
se2srini: thanks guys. bye now
salcs329: thanks.. talk to you all
next week.
michaelwalsh327: bye
se2srini has left the room.
salcs329: bye
starkiller76: bye
x V DoGG x has left the room.
salcs329 has left the room.
gorclon1: bye
